In May 2021, we completed a thatched-roof auberge, "Oyado Fukuchishiro (https://fukuchiyo.com/)," a restored and renovated traditional building over 200 years old, just a 3-minute walk from the brewery. The inn is directly managed by the brewery and is located in a traditional building preservation district, where guests can enjoy a combination of lodging, meals, and sake. It is also possible to stay for meals only. Normally, we do not offer sake brewery tours or tastings. However, for overnight guests only, we offer tours of the brewery and tastings of limited edition sake in a special tasting room. Please take the time to enjoy the historic town as well.

Description

This brewery was founded around the year 1920. The three buildings consisting of the rice mill, where the bran (the hard part near the skin) is removed to make the rice white, the koji room, where that rice is steamed and sprinkled with koji fungus to create rice koji and and Storehouse No. 1, are registlated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. Storehouse No. 1, which was built around 1921, is a two-story wooden structure with a tile roof and a total area of 522 square meters. It is located near the center of the west side of the site, with the ridge of the roof running east to west. Built with a length of 25 meters and a width of 15 meters, one corner features a special tasting room exclusively for guests staying at the auberge run by Fukuchiyo Sake Brewery. The small attached annex is used as a warehouse for product storage. The exterior walls with its vertical boards creates a quintessential sake brewery scenery. Fukuchiyo Sake Brewery's "Nabeshima" sake was awarded the highest honor of "Champion Sake" in the Japanese sake category of the International Wine Challenge (IWC) 2011, the world's largest festival for alcoholic beverages. Brewery tours and sake tastings are typically only available to guests of the auberge, but the main brands can be seen on display in the gallery space. The brewery does not sell sake directly, but its sake can be purchased at the liquor shops "Iimori Saketen" and "Ogusu Saketen" in the city.
