Description
This sake brewery was founded in 1934. The name of its main brand "Sachihime", which translates roughly to "happy princess", was named after the founder's desire to make his only daughter happy. The brewery is dedicated to the production of junmai sake, which can be enjoyed with meals, and visitors can tour the brewery and also do some sake tasting. The soft-serve ice cream made with local sake, the first of its kind in Kyushu, is popular as well. It is a two-minute drive from the Yutoku Inari Shrine, one of the three major Inari shrines in Japan, and the sacred sake used in Shinto rituals at the shrine is also brewed at the Sachihime Sake Brewery. Inari Shrine is considered a guardian deity of life in general, and it is often visited by people wishing for successful business and family prosperity. The vermilion-lacquered tower gate at the entrance to the shrine is said to be as shimmering and elegant as the majestic Yomeimon Gate of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, a shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, first shogun of the Edo Shogunate, and you can also enjoy the seasonal flowers that can be found all about the shrine grounds. With approximately 3 million visitors each year, it is the second most visited shrine in all of Kyushu, second only to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
